I have been lucky enough to spend most of my career in a creative space. After working in Public Relations in Los Angeles and studying Interior Design in NYC I returned to where I grew up in Massachusetts, founded Kimball Events and spent the next 17 years designing and planning beautiful weddings and events around the globe for the most amazing clients.  When the pandemic hit, like many people, my work came to a crashing halt.  It was during this time that I discovered another creative, yet hidden, passion—SEWING.

I began to take sewing lessons and had an idea…

A while back I was shopping at a department store trying on pants and sweaters when the sales person suggested I also try their long cotton tank tops to “add a layer” for more dimension in the outfit. I loved it, what a simple trick--the extra layer made a basic look more stylish and put together.

I knew that’s how fashion magazine spreads and advertising were styled; layers, different fabrics and colors put together to create dimension and super stylish looks. As a “not tall” and “not skinny” gal when I tried to emulate those looks, the multiple layers made me feel bigger, bulkier… and somehow shorter!

I wanted more looks with the same idea of simple layers--I started cutting sleeves off and sewing or taping the fronts of my button downs. I liked the idea of top that I could layer under sweaters, vests, and other tops—BUT I didn’t like feeling of the sleeves pulling or the button fronts popping on my chest and those shirts tended to billow out which created a larger silhouette on me.  I also realized I loved the feel of the soft tank under my clothes, it smoothed out my middle and was so comfortable.

Since I wasn’t finding what I was looking for in stores I thought maybe I could create it. I was worried if this didn’t already exist in the most creative and expansive fashion world, then maybe it just couldn’t work for some reason.

BUT IT DID.

My first goal was simply creating a comfortable tank top with shirt tails –my favorite outfit in the world is leggings, boots, sweater, and a layer shirt to create a sense of style as well as cover the butt, and went from there. I used a super soft Bamboo stretch cotton and stretch shirting so the different fabrics work well together, a smooth skimming base with classic, fashionable collars and tails.  I am so proud of these clothes. I have to believe if I was looking for something like this for years then other women must be as well. And if they didn’t know it could be a thing, well now it is!  I am so excited to share MAMIELU with you…

I hope you love these clothes.

I hope you feel Empowered wearing them.

I hope you feel Stylish, Comfortable, Sassy, and Confident.
